with Jackie Morris and Kerry Andrew at Loyton Lodge

24th October 2018

an inspiring evening of spells, music and feasting!

We are delighted to announce that Jackie Morris is returning to Exmoor this autumn. Since her visit to Number Seven last year The Lost Words has sold over 89,000 copies bringing her wide acclaim. In May she was awarded the Hay Festival Medal for illustration for creating in partnership with Robert Macfarlane 'a work of luminous beauty celebrating the natural world.'

Those of you that have joined us for our past events with Jackie know that we like to create a little magic, whether it's secret readings, watching her paint or listen to tales surrounded by bluebells. This event is no exception and we are thrilled to be partnering with the wonderful team at Loyton Lodge, located in Morebath, just a 15 minute drive from Number Seven.

The chef at Loyton has planned a colourful vegetarian supper, drinks will be served on arrival and during the course of the evening you will be able to hear Jackie recite a poem or two, while conjuring from ink the animal described within the words.

Jackie will be joined on stage by singer, composer and author Kerry Andrew who has set Robert Macfarlane's spells for Bluebell and Wren to music. Kerry’s set will also include a selection of her band's You Are Wolf tunes, described by The Observer as as ‘English avant-folk at its finest.’

Jackie and Kerry's conversation will be compered by Nicola Davies, fellow author and close friend of Jackie who has a great understanding of The Lost Words phenomenal journey as she too has watched it grow from its very beginnings - the three appeared together on stage at Hay Festival.

Earlier this year Kerry published Swansong, her debut novel to much acclaim '...the real thing, right from the start: spiky, strange and contemporary, but always with a dark undertow of myth and folklore tugging at its telling. The voice jags at you, and the plot grips: this is a brilliant novel by a writer - and musician - of frankly alarming talent.' Robert Macfarlane

It promises to be a memorable evening and we feel very privileged that such talented high profile artists are to be performing at this intimate venue on Exmoor.
