Celebrate the Return of the Swallows

with Jackie Morris

When we celebrated the publication of The House Without Windows last autumn, guests were invited to walk the labyrinth while musing a question inspired by Barbara Newhall Follett's writing and posed by Jackie Morris. The author of the most compelling answer won its author an inked butterfly.

To celebrate the return of the swallows to our skies we thought we would ask you the same question. . .

First Prize: A Jackie Morris original of a swallow, Sumi ink on Two Rivers handmade paper.

Plus signed first edition of The House Without Windows and Letters to the Earth

Second Prize: Signed first edition of The House Without Windows and Letters to the Earth

'Little Eepersip doesn't want to live in a house with doors and windows and a roof, so she runs away to live in the wild - first in the Meadow, then by the Sea, and finally in the Mountain. Her heartbroken parents follow her, bringing her back home to 'safety' and locking her up in the stifling square of the house. But she slips away once more, following her heart into the richness of untrammelled nature and disappearing forever.'

And who hasn't, at some point in their lives,

wished to walk away,

from all the familiar?

Would you walk

to the meadow,

the sea,

the mountains,

to seek a quiet sanctuary, a new beginning?

Give your answer space to breathe, go walking if you can, take a stroll in the garden, open a window wide, and then in no more than two hundred words write your reply.

To make it a little more immersive we are encouraging entries to be handwritten or typed and sent by post to:
